Privacy — Fair Customs
Information about the collection and use of submissions provided as part of the Fair Customs initiative.
Why do we collect this information?
The information submitted through the “Share your example” form is used to document the effects of the new European customs mechanism applying to small imported consignments.
It may be used, in particular, to produce anonymised statistics, compare different cases, and prepare documents intended for European institutions, partner organisations or the media.
What information do we collect?
The form may collect the following information:
- country of residence;
- country from which the goods were dispatched;
- date of the simulation or order;
- platform or seller concerned;
- type of purchase;
- value of the goods, estimated duties or fees, and total amount to pay;
- currency used;
- number of different items;
- an optional description of the goods;
- an optional screenshot;
- an optional comment;
- an optional email address.
How we use the data
Data used for statistical purposes is processed in anonymised form.
If an email address is provided, it will only be used to contact the person concerned in order to verify or obtain additional information about their submission. The email address will not be published.
Individual examples and screenshots will only be reproduced in a publication, report, petition or external communication where the person concerned has given permission for such use.
Screenshots
Before submitting a screenshot, please make sure that it does not contain any personal information such as your name, address, telephone number, account identifier or order number.
If a submitted screenshot nevertheless contains personal information, we reserve the right not to use it or to delete it.
Data retention
Data is retained only for as long as necessary to document and follow up the Fair Customs initiative.
Data that is no longer required will be deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
In accordance with applicable data protection law, you may, depending on the circumstances, request access to your personal data, its correction or deletion, as well as restriction of processing or object to certain processing activities.
Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time for future use.
